Message from the Mayor - April 9, 2024

The Business Administrator’s Report to City Council on April 9, 2024, on behalf of Mayor Desiderio:

The beach replenishment project has started, and to date, the dredge “Liberty Island” has placed over 100,000 cubic yards of sand on the south end beaches. The project is heading south at about 88th Street towards the southernmost point for the beach-fill at 94th Street. After that, the beaches will be filled northward to about 74th Street. Following completion of the south end, the project will move immediately to the center of town, where beaches will be replenished between about 29th and 52nd Streets.

The entire replenishment project is currently on track to be completed prior to Memorial Day weekend. Please understand the project schedule can be impacted by rough seas or mechanical issues, so let’s all hope for calm weather over the next six weeks.

Next week, South Jersey Gas will start with road paving of Landis Avenue and adjacent side streets that were dug up and temporarily restored over the past year for the installation of improved gas infrastructure.

The city is also working on several road and utility projects around town that are nearing completion. All city road projects, along with the work by SJ Gas, will be substantially completed prior to Memorial Day weekend. Any uncompleted road work will be ceased, and the areas cleaned up prior to the Memorial Day weekend. There may be some finishing of road work after Memorial Day up until mid-June, after which all road work will be put on hold until after the summer season. The only construction project the city intends to advance this summer is our new Community Center, on the site of the former public school in the 4500 Block between Central Avenue and Park Road.

Smile…You’re in Sea Isle,

Mayor Leonard C. Desiderio

Message from the Council - April 4, 2024

During the March 26 City Council meeting, Ordinance 1713 was Introduced with First Reading. Ordinance 1713 is a routine annual ordinance that is written in conjunction with Sea Isle City’s Municipal Budget to allow the city to "bank" (or preserve) for future years any appropriation limits not utilized. This allows the city to more effectively manage our budgets over several years. This ordinance will have Second Reading and Public Hearing (and possible adoption) on April 23.

Also on March 26, City Council Introduced Sea Isle City’s 2024 Local Municipal Budget via Resolution 052, which will have Second Reading and Public Hearing (and possible adoption) on April 23.

Each of the resolutions on the March 26 Consent Agenda was approved, including…

• Resolution 054, which approved a Raffle Application for the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City’s Sailing Foundation.

• Resolution 055, which authorized a Shared Services Agreement with the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority for the review and submission of Sea Isle City’s annual Recycling Tonnage Report.

• Resolution 056, which authorized the award of a contract in the amount of $66,010 to Think Pavers, of Mount Royal, NJ, for storm sewer repair and replacement (within easement) at 324 - 45th Place.

• Resolution 057, which authorized Sea Isle City’s participation in the Somerset County Cooperative Pricing System, for the purchase of goods and services.

• Resolution 058, which authorized a contract in the amount of $122,000 with Go Events, of West Berlin, NJ, for the Sea Isle City Division of Tourism’s 2024 Concerts at Excursion Park.

The next City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 9, at 10:00 AM on the third floor of City Hall – and we hope to see you there.

Best regards from the members of City Council,
